Dave Mark is a seasoned global finance leader with more than 36 years of experience in Fortune 500 multinationals, spanning multiple industries including medical devices & pharmaceuticals, food & consumer products, and oil & gas.
The majority of Dave’s career has been focused on markets outside of the U.S., including more than ten years living and working abroad in Europe, Asia, and Latin America. This experience has given him the insights and adaptability to navigate the diverse cultures, unique local business practices, and rapidly evolving geopolitical and economic landscapes that drive both risks and opportunities for global businesses.
Dave worked for Abbott, a global healthcare company with a diverse portfolio of life-changing technologies and revenues of $40 billion, for more than 23 years. He retired as Vice President, Internal Audit, where he led an organization tasked with providing assurance over the company’s risk management processes as well as a critical talent pipeline for the broader Abbott organization. In this role Dave reported to the Audit Committee and had significant interaction with the Board of Directors. Prior to that role, Dave held various finance leadership roles in Abbott’s pharmaceutical, nutrition, and diagnostics businesses. Dave previously held finance roles of increasing responsibility with Ralston Purina Company and Amoco Corporation.
Dave has a strong track record of building high-performing global organizations and has invested much of his time and energy in developing talent. In addition to his Internal Audit role with Abbott, Dave was a passionate supporter of the company’s diversity and inclusion efforts, serving as executive sponsor of the global LGBTQ network as well as the women’s leadership network for Latin America.
Dave also served as the Board Chairman of Abbott Laboratories Employee Credit Union, an independent member-owned financial institution with more than 30,000 members and $1 billion of assets.
Dave is a CPA, has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Iowa and an MBA in finance from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. A strong believer in lifelong learning, Dave is currently enrolled in the University of Chicago’s Master of Liberal Arts program, concentrating on Ethics & Leadership. He is also an avid endurance athlete, having completed 10+ Ironman events as well as all six races of the Abbott World Marathon Majors.
